Special schools and educational support in St Albans

Special schools

  • Batchwood School - a state community special school for 60 students with social, emotional and behavioural learning difficulties.
  • Heathlands School - a community state special school for deaf children who require sign language to access the curriculum.
  • St Luke's School - a state special school for around 140 pupils with moderate learning difficulties including students with high functioning autism/asperger's syndrome.
  • Watling View School - a state community special school for approximately 90 children and young people with severe learning difficulties.

Support centres

  • The Links Education Support Centre - a state pupil referral unit supporting children and young people who are at risk of exclusion or who have been permanently excluded from schools.


  • St Albans Music School - provides individual and group lessons in brass, strings, woodwind, percussion, keyboard, guitar and singing.

  • St Albans Tutors - a small, independent, co-educational sixth form college founded in 1988 with 40 students. Offers GCSE, A level and individual tuition.
