New City Centre Parking Restrictions

New City Centre Parking Restrictions

Enforcement of parking restrictions in Market Place, Spencer Street and Upper Dagnall Street will begin on Saturday 1 July 2017. The restrictions will help increase the turnover of vehicles allowing more people to park for short periods to visit near-by businesses and shops.

People will be able pay to park in pay and display bays for up to one hour on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, from 8am to 6.30pm. Parking on Wednesdays, Saturdays and other occasional market days will be prohibited from 3am to 6.30pm.

The new Traffic Regulation Order setting out the restrictions has been put in place by St Albans City and District Council following a long consultation process. New signage and pay and display machines have been erected ahead of the start of enforcement on Saturday 1 July 2017. Single yellow lines have also been marked in the pay and display bays, prohibiting parking on Wednesdays, Saturdays and other market days.

Moving Museums Initiative Launched

Moving Museums Initiative Launched

Residents can find out all they want to know about St Albans' new £7.75 million Museum and Art Gallery this summer. Moving Museums is an initiative designed to share information about the exciting development and will cater for people of all ages.

It is being staged by St Albans Museums staff and the Community Engagement team from St Albans City and District Council. They are to run a stall at four community events in the District and in the City Centre during a busy shopping day. Visitors will be able to view the latest images of the building work, make their own model museum and ask any questions they may have. They will also be told how they can volunteer to help with the project or make a donation to have their name engraved in one of the Museum's oak panels.

The Town Hall in St Peter's Street, built in the 1830s, is being converted into a Museum and Art Gallery that is due to open next year. This follows the closure in 2015 of the former Museum site in Hatfield...
