Sounds of Summer in St Albans

Great music across St Albans this summer

There's lots of great music coming your way in St Albans this summer with some top events just around the corner in July:

International Organ Festival

The 28th International Organ Festival kicks off on 4 Jul for 15 days with a rich programme of music on offer. There'll be world premieres from leading composers James MacMillan, Paul Patterson and Kyung-Hwa Chae and on their first visit to the festival is Austria's acclaimed Orchester Wiener Akademie in a programme of Haydn and Mozart. Tickets and timetables are available on the Festival website.

And if organ music is not your thing you'll still be spoilt for choice as for the first time the IOFringe festival will run in tandem with the main Organ Festival offering free live music at a host of venues throughout the District. See the brochure for more details.

Childwickbury Arts Fair

There's plenty of great music acts all day Saturday and Sunday at this year's Childwickbury Arts Festival (3-5 Jul). All music is included in the admission price.  Acts include Co Jones (Sat eve), Jacket, Christina Boonstra, Melodi and plenty more. Full act list on the website.

The M Festival

Back for a 6th consecutive year, Marlborough Science Academy's M Festival is bigger than ever before, featuring more local bands and bigger stages.  Join the action on 11 Jul from 2.30pm.  Details and Tickets.

St Albans Mayor joins the Queen for Magna Carta's 800th anniversary

HM The Queen welcomed dignitaries, including St Albans representatives, to celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta on Monday 15 June at Runnymede.

As a Magna Carta Charter Town, St Albans was represented by Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, Mayor of St Albans City and District, other Councillors and civic leaders.

St Albans was at the start of the development of Magna Carta. It hosted the first meeting between the churchmen and barons that led to the charter of rights being sealed by King John at Runnymede in 1215.

Also present at the Runnymede commemoration event were Prime Minister, David Cameron, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and HRH The Princess Royal. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby was among the other dignitaries from the UK and around the world.
