Squatlife Photography Exhibition

Squatlife Photography Exhibition

A new exhbition examining attitudes towards the homeless through the ages and inspired by recently discovered photography from the '80s depicting the life of squatters in St Albans is now open at the new St Albans Museum + Gallery.

Exploring both historical and contemporary responses to the state of being homeless from the 12th century through Victorian times and the workhouse era, through to the 21st century, it is all the more poignant for being held in a city widely regarded as one of the most affluent in the country.

Running until 26 August, Squatlife will be the first time that a set of recently discovered photographs by Dave Kotula depicting squatters in empty buildings in St Albans during the 1980s is exhibited. The photos of local squats - there were some 50 squats in the area - will be on display alongside the stories of the people who inhabited them.
