Remembering Kate D'Arcy
The inimitable Katherine Rose D'Arcy (Kate to everyone who knew her), co-founder of the award-winning Darcy's Restaurant, passed away on 15 June 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kate - a funny, confident Aussie blonde - had the rare ability to make an immediate and lasting impression on anyone who met her. She was a true individual; a talented, smart and inspiring woman. Lunch with Kate was a fabulous four-hour affair with great food and wine, lots of laughter and a big hug.
Her team, led by Ruth Hurren (Co-founder and Executive Chef), Rowan Thompson (Operations Manager) and Julie Lesbros (Restaurant Manager) were like family. Kate was mentor, friend and inspiration to them all; leading by example and encouraging everyone to find the best in themselves. She was gutsy, loyal, generous and kind. In a word: unforgettable.
Kate's funeral took place on Thursday 24 June at West Herts Crematorium. Donations to Grove House Hospice are welcome.
A team from 'Darcy's complete the Midnight Walk every June to raise money for Grove House Hospice, in memory of Kate and as a way of saying thanks for the undivided attention and care she received. In 2011, the restaurant also donated £1,725 raised from a £1 per cover fundraiser during May and June.
