Alpha Beats Music Events - April 2010
Supporting the cinema project in St Albans
Sat 17 April - The Clock Tower
Alpha Beats kicks off with its pre-launch gig on Saturday 17 April, at The Clock Tower, St Albans, from 12 midday. With four bands on the bill, this bucket collecting event will be fund raising for the restoration of the old Odeon Cinema (formerly known as The Alpha) on the London Road.
Enjoy this taste of local talent in the town; drop a few coins in the collection tin and look forward to film on the big screen soon, after a 15-year wait.
The Clock Tower line-up is:
12 noon - 12.30pm: The Trailer Trash Orchestra
12.50 - 1.20pm: Nick Stephenson
1.40 - 2.10pm: Katie Masson
2.30 - 3pm: Bill Redway
Sat 24 & Sun 25 April - The Farmers Boy
Then keep the following weekend free, for a full bill of fantastic music, as Alpha Beats moves to The Farmers Boy, London Road - close to the cinema site - from 2pm on Saturday 24 and 12noon on Sunday 25 April. A great line-up of St Albans musicians and bands will be producing 19 hours of inspirational music to raise much needed funds for the cinema restoration.
The weekend-long gig, dubbed "Alpha Beats" kicks off with Bob Dylan maestro, Gary Sear, at 2pm and headline act The Swan Vesta Social Club delivering that Cuban mojito cocktail of Latino party music on Saturday night, culminating with the legendary Rodfords (Zombies, Argent and The Kinks) on Sunday night.
Admission is free, but those collection buckets will be constantly rattled by the in-house usherettes, and two barrels of beer will be raffled over the weekend... sip your way through 80 pints! Sample the garden barbeque; bring your family along for Facepainting and T-Shirt designing, or bid for Rock Memorabilia in the spot auction. Let's resuscitate the Art Deco Cinema in St Albans; give life support to James Hannaway at The Rex, and inject money into the collection pot!
