New road to rail link for St Albans

A new bus service linking St Albans' railway stations and the city centre launched on 30 January. The Abbey Shuttle will travel between St Albans Abbey Station and St Albans City Station via St Peter's Street with the timetable scheduled to coincide with train arrivals and departures.

The service is a 12-month pilot funded by a £129k grant from the Department for Transport. All profits from the service will be reinvested in the route and if successful the contract will extend past the one year trial project.

Derrick Ashley, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “With very few bus services scheduled around train timetables this new route will make passenger transport an even more convenient and attractive option. “We want to see better connections between different modes of travel in Hertfordshire and we are pushing the Government and transport operators to improve these links.

“We hope that the Abbey Shuttle will encourage more people to leave their cars at home, which will be good for both traffic congestion and air quality in St Albans.
