More School Places for St Albans

St Albans Council has approved a recommendation to create an additional 30 more school places at St Peter’s Primary School in St Albans. This will include additional classroom accommodation to support the increased number of pupils.

The places are being created in response to local demand in the area and it is intended that they would be available from September 2020. This will mean the school will have the capacity to admit 60 reception aged children growing to a full two form entry thereafter.

A consultation which took place from January – March to collect the views of local people and the response showed a good level of support for the expansion. A statutory notice will be issued and the notice period will run from 4 May until 7 June, 2018. A final decision will be made by Cabinet in July should there be any objections.

The latest proposals come on top of the over £250m already approved since 2010 to provide over 19,000 additional permanent and temporary primary and secondary school places.
