Panko brings Japanese flavours to St Albans

Panko brings Japanese flavours to St Albans

Local restaurant duo Adam Jones and Chris Evans (owner of HATCH) have recently opened an exciting new restaurant on Holywell Hill, offering a small and specialist menu of Japanese Katsu.

Adam explains: 'Generally restaurants in Japan specialise in one cuisine and do it really well. We wanted to bring this to St Albans and create the best dishes we could. Katsu, which is the breading of meats and fish, is a staple comfort food found everywhere in Japan - from street food stalls to top class restaurants. We hope that guests will feel welcome, taken care of and leave having enjoyed a simple, delicious and hearty meal.'

While many may have tried the well known Katsu curry, the Panko menu is much more diverse than this hearty favourite. Salads, rice dishes and an addictive burger all make for an offering that will satisfy the most complex of family occasions. Not all of the dishes are heavy or filling; the salad and traditional Tonkatsu are both light, refreshing and likely to be popular in the summer months ahead.

Along with some innovative cocktails, Japanese whiskey and select beers Panko is also a great choice for a night of drinks and hearty bar snacks, such as the prawn Katsu with Japanese Mayo which will leave you craving more. Finish the meal off with a fruity, complimentary sorbet and you'll be back for more.

Independent restaurants are thriving in St Albans as discerning and adventurous customers seek out new experiences and Panko is expected to go from strength to strength.
