Strange BonesStrange Bones come from Blackpool, and Blackpool is Strange Bones. A town in Lancashire but a town not ‘part’ of Lancashire. This is a town of total political autonomy, fiercely independent of mind, body and spirit. Not ‘part’ of anything except itself. Strange Bones could come from nowhere else.Like the town they hail from Strange Bones have seen a lot in their short history. Brought up with punk rock by a father who not only lived and breathed the world of punk, but filmed the whole thing too. John and Karen Bentham realised in the 80’s that somebody better capture all these bands coming through the North West, so set out with his cine camera to do just that. Filming everybody from the UK Subs to GBH, Black Flag to Throbbing Gristle, they filmed them all. When their boys came along they spent nights educating these wide-eyed kids to the magic of rock music played loud, fast but above all for a purpose. Do what you want boys, but do it because you believe in it. While you were watching Blue Peter, Strange Bones were watching Black Flag live from Leeds. With this education and a belief in their talent, in their early teens they formed a punk-band and played nearly 1000 shows together around the world: Japan, US, Australia, Italy, Spain, Germany – played them all. Toured with Rancid, did a Maida Vale session and a Big Weekend for Radio 1. Had a Zane Lowe Hottest Record and won XFM Awards. Then they stopped. In 2014, now still only in their early 20’s, Bob, Jack and Will Bentham teamed up with lifelong friend Stuart Newburn and formed Strange Bones. Just mates, playing punk rock music together in this most independent of British towns. Then they started again.First came ‘Sick of it All’ (SOIA) a powerful slab of Blackpool Rock, followed by the anthem 'God Save The Teen’, which have both had continuous plays and heavy support by Annie Mac, Dan P Carter, Phil Taggart, and Abbie McCarthy on BBC Radio 1, as well as Julie Adenuga on Beats1, Alex Baker on Kerrang Radio, and Ian Camfield on XS Radio. The band decamped to LA for two weeks and recorded with Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters at their Studio 606 - using the SoundCity Neve desk, the desk that Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Cheap Trick and Guns and Roses all recorded on. Dan Lancaster (Blink 182, Bring Me The Horizon, Lower Than Atlantis) then mixed all the tracks. Strange Bones are a four piece from Blackpool. Bobby Bentham, vocals and guitar. Will Bentham, bass guitar and vocals, Jack Bentham guitar and vocals, and Stuart 'Spud' Newburn, drums and vocals. They are putting loud music out again, it’s worth listening to because it has a purpose. With a sold out 'Jack Daniels' residency in Blackpool and festivals appearances at Download UK and France, Live at Leeds, The Great Escape, and Reading And Leeds. Their mum and dad are proud of them. Creedence Clearwater Review are perhaps now the definitive Creedence Clearwater Revival Tribute Band in the UK. This is result of extensive hard work by four talented musicians, dedicated to the music of both Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogherty's later solo career material, Performing a range of their material consisting of all of their biggest, classic hits, album tracks and wonderful obscurities. The Creedence and Fogerty catalogue includes Bad Moon Rising, Up Around The Bend, Proud Mary, Suzie Q, Green River, Born On The Bayou, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Rockin’ All Over The World (later covered by Status Quo), and many, many more. The aim has been to avoid slavishly following album tracks but rather to re-interpret the bands massive back catalogue in a similar manner to John Fogherty's performances with his current band. Dale Taylor takes up the role of John Fogherty on guitar and vocals with the boundless energy of his generation and with the solid experience of the band, providing a fantastic quality yet power packed delivery of the original band's classic songs. Baby In VainLola Hammerich (vocals/guitar), Andrea Thuesen (vocals/guitar) and Benedicte Pierleoni (drums) are a trio not to be messed with. Making rumbling rock and grimy grunge that’s as malevolent as a midnight knife fight, their sound is equal parts Kyuss and Sleater-Kinney, with a dash of Babes In Toyland for extra punch.Baby In Vain are not your typical Scandinavian indie band. Drawing on the gang-mentality and bluesy swagger of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Queens Of The Stone Age, they’ve been together six years, but are still quite young; Lola’s 19, Benedicte is 21 and Andrea 22. Their early material saw them producing their own twist on stoner-rock, but over the past five years they’ve branched out into much broader territory, pulling in the industrial menace of post-punk alongside fuzzy expeditions into the fringes of doom and garage punk.TICKETS: £5 Adv / £7 Door Ages 14+ (Under 18s to be accompanied by a guardian) Find out more...

The growling bass sound and the quirky guitar riffs are all there to be heard as is the dual vocal 'attack' from the two frontmen a la Burnel-Cornwell as they rip through all the classics: 'Peaches', 'Hanging Around', 'No More Heroes', '5 Minutes', 'The Raven', 'Walk On By', 'Straighten Out', 'Down In The Sewer' and many more as they cover virtually the whole of the first three Stranglers' albums and beyond...Straighten Out - live and unleashed - will take you on a nostalgia trip that transports you back to those raw, powerful, exhilarating times when The Stranglers emerged through the quagmire of mediocrity to produce some of the finest tunes ever written...Straighten Out will put you back in that place...! Bassist Shaggy and keyboard player Mick ('The Doc') were together in previous Stranglers tribute band 'Four More Heroes' and it was only natural that these two continued on after their demise to form 'Straighten Out' given their love of Stranglers music and the desire to keep playing live ...they set the platform with the growling bass and swirling keyboard sound so essential to reproducing the authentic Stranglers sound and they are joined by the powerhouse Micky on drums and Phil steps up to give you the 'Hugh' element to complete the fearsome foursome... The height of the band's popularity was in the early 1980s, although it retained a cult following for many years after. The Hoosiers2007 saw The Hoosiers explode upon an unsuspecting public with their debut album “The Trick To Life”, which reached the top of the album charts and spawned the indie-pop classics ‘Worried About Ray’ and ‘Goodbye Mr A’, which still pack out indie dance floors a decade later.Never released on vinyl, the band will be selling a new limited edition vinyl pressing and expanded 2CD edition of their debut when they undertake a huge UK tour that will see them play the album in its entirety, something they've never done before. The multi-platinum success of their debut album raised huge expectations for its follow-up, not least at The Hoosiers’ record label. The prophetically titled “The Illusion of Safety” was, all the band agree, a troubled project from the start. Irwin suggests, “The word ‘hit’ is substituted for ‘good’. There’s an art to writing under those conditions, but it wasn’t one that worked for us. It exacts a toll on too many writers. You give up too much if you do that.”“The News From Nowhere”, released in 2014, was an astonishing return to form along with 2015’s “The Secret Service”, both self-released after the above troubles with labels. “Doing it on our own terms,” says Irwin, “and actually having a proper say in it, felt wonderful. We had nothing to lose, but a lot to prove.”Tension, creativity, democracy, arguments, time apart, coming back together, and then songs. Lots of them. Gone is the self-consciousness of the dog days around their second album; gone, too, the self-doubt. In their place is a deeply rooted – and hard-won – confidence, and a determination to lock back in to the freedom and joy of the early days.TICKETS: £15 Adv / £17 Door - ON-SALE Weds 19 July 2017 10amAges 14+ (Under 18s to be accompanied by a guardian) Find out more...
