Watford Colosseum
Watford Colosseum is a 1,309 seat venue in the heart of Watford and is home to the best live music and entertainment outside London. Watford Colosseum was built in 1938 as the Watford Town Hall Assembly Rooms to the design of architect Charles Cowles-Voysey and acoustician Hope Bagenal. Bagenal’s other acoustic projects include the refurbishment of the Royal Albert Hall and the construction of the Royal Festival Hall.

Watford’s premier concert venue is world renowned for its acoustic qualities. Julian Lloyd Webber described Watford Colosseum as “the finest recording venue in the world” and it has been used to record the soundtracks of Lord of the Rings, The Sound of Music and Star Wars. In 1995, Pavarotti came to Watford Colosseum to record Verdi’s Inno delle Nazioni with the Philharmonia Chorus. More recently, recordings from BBC Concert Orchestra have taken place in the auditorium.

  • Thu 16 May - Tubular Bells For Two & Gypsyfingers

    7:30 PM

One album, two men, too many instruments! The multi-award winning hit show Tubular Bells For Two returns to the UK for a 13-date tour which concludes at Watford Colosseum on Thursday 16th May. Two highly talented musicians, Daniel Holdsworth and Tom Bamford, battle with a stageful of instruments to reproduce Mike Oldfield’s classic Tubular Bells album live. One slip, and it could all go horribly wrong! Like all the best ideas, Tubular Bells For Two started with a simple concept. Daniel and his friend Aidan Roberts started to wonder how far Mike Oldfield’s groundbreaking multi-tracked album Tubular Bells could be reproduced live. A one-off fun show for friends with minimal instrumentation proved so popular that they decided to do it again, more and more instruments were added over time, and Tubular Bells For Two was born! Tubular Bells For Two made its UK debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012, where it wowed critics and audience alike, winning 5-star reviews and much-coveted Herald Angel and ‘Sixth Star’ Bobby awards, and has sold out many British concert venues on subsequent tours since. The concept remains the same: the barefoot duo dash around the stage, performing a multitude of instruments live in an intricately choreographed, thrilling piece of theatre. For the audience, the fun lies in not only hearing the music of a classic album beautifully played, but also in the tension of knowing that the slightest mistake could bring the whole show crashing to a halt! Opening act will be GypsyFingers, featuring Luke and Victoria Oldfield – and yes, Luke was introduced to the show by his father, who has given it his seal of approval!  “The musical equivalent to the triathlon. A must see and hear!” ***** The Scotsman “Two musicians at the top of their game” ***** Edinburgh Evening News “It's not hyperbole to say that the show really has to be seen to be believed” – Prog Street Food In a hurry - don't even worry! Enjoy our delicious hot street food freshly created by our in house chefs. No need to book just visit us at our street food stand where you will be spoilt for choice!
