Official Independent Venue Week 2019 Show Pip BlomIn 2017, Pip Blom released three tracks written as a full band: the jangling fuzz of 'School', Courtney Barnett-esque 'Babies Are A Lie' and 'I Think I'm In Love' – a ramshackle spiral of needling guitar lines and rattling hooks, set for re-release on XXX. Earning the band fans in Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Mark Riley (who asked them in to record two 6Music sessions during the year), alongside mentions in NME, DIY, The Line of Best Fit and more, it showed that Pip's inklings towards what the music could turn into were correct.A Dutch tour with Amsterdam peers Canshaker Pi, meanwhile, gave the trio a necessary kick into gear on stage. “At first when we started we were terrified and we hardly moved on stage. Buttouring with Canshaker Pi helped us so much,” enthuses Pip. “They were so energetic, it was insane. We wanted to be like them. In the end, I think that's had a lot of influence on the songs that I write at the moment too. I want our songs to be vibrant and energetic. I want them to reflect what we are trying to be live.”Now, heading into 2018, Pip Blom are ready to put all these formative steps into action. Already confirmed for a string of dates supporting Franz Ferdinand in Holland, and with a Radio 1 session with Huw coming imminently, the building blocks are already combining to form something with real crossover potential. “I just like the thrill of doing something new,” shrugs Pip. “We’ve still got a long way to go, but hey: you should always dream big.”Lacuna BloomeWeird MilkTICKETS: £8 Adv / £10 DoorAges 14+ (Under 18s to be accompanied by a guardian) Find out more...

  • Thu 31 Jan - The Spitfires - SOLD OUT

    8:00 PM

Official Independent Venue Week 2019 ShowThe SpitfiresWatford based 4-piece The Spitfires are songwriter Billy Sullivan on lead vocals and guitar, Sam Long on bass/backing vocals, Matt Johnson on drums and George Moorhouse on keyboards. The Spitfires take in a wide range of influences from reggae and ska through to punk and soul. This melting pot has helped infuse the band’s own sharp sound and style. Their work ethic and acute social commentary has made this fiercely independent band one of the most popular underground success stories in the UK right now.Clash Magazine says its “Spiky, rebellious rock ‘n’ roll delivered with no small degree of street smarts and style” and John Robb from Louder Than War thinks “The Spitfires are musical street fighters with a genuine passion”. The band have released three albums – ‘Response’ in 2015, ‘A Thousand Times’ in 2016 and ‘Year Zero’, which was out in July 2018. Year Zero reached number 1 in the UK Independent Chart as well as reaching 8 in the UK Vinyl Chart. As well as relentless touring, the band have supported The Specials and Paul Weller and recently made their national TV debut on BBC’s Andrew Marr Show, waking up Sunday morning viewers with a blistering version of the anthemic ‘Stand Down’.TICKETS: £13.50 Adv - SOLD OUTAges 14+ (Under 18s to be accompanied by a guardian) Find out more...

RedFaces Sheffield’s RedFaces kick off 2018 with the release of a brand-new single ‘Messed Up Feeling’. Recorded at Miloco’s The Pool in London and produced by Carey Willetts (Athlete) ‘Messed Up Feeling’ is a driving, monster of a song, with nods to their RnB influences – the groove landing somewhere between Kasabian and Michael Jackson, bass guitar and drums pushed right to the front of the mix. Chosen by NME as one of their essential picks for 2018, the year is already shaping up to be a busy one for the band. Previous single ‘Take It Or Leave It’ was chosen as BBC Radio 1’s ‘Introducing Track Of The Week’ and MTV marked them out as a ‘One To Watch’. RedFaces are no strangers to the festival circuit. After storming performances at Community, Live at Leeds, The Great Escape, Dot to Dot, Isle of Wight, TRNSMT and Kendall Calling last summer, as well as support slots with DMA’s and a sold-out hometown show at Sheffield’s Plug. They recently completed a headline UK tour, and several festival dates are already confirmed for later in the year. RedFaces are Harry Lyon, Isaac White, Charlie Yapp and Ryan Laycock. Four lads from Sheffield treading what was once a well-worn path, these days the road less travelled. The journey started at 2Fly studios in Sheffield, recording demos with Alan Smyth. Taking their influences from the 50s and 60s right through to today, by way of The Beatles, Hendrix, The Smiths and The Strokes. The bands keen ear for melody, hooks and groove make for a stand out, whistle blowing, fuzz-rock sound. Exploration into the tremendous highs and the bottomless lows of a middle class music nut living in the heart of the concrete jungle. • Wed 27 Feb - Sean McGowan

    8:00 PM

Seán McGowanThe ever-grafting son of the smith, Seán McGowan, is barrelling into 2019 via his favourite place: the road. With 2018 an indelible highlight and highpoint of his decade of crafting songs, Seán is stepping up his already considerable efforts to bring his smart wordplay and clash of sad and riotous tunes to everyone he can muster.Following the release of his debut album Son of the Smithin May 2018 Seán has had opportunity after opportunity to show all sorts of crowds what he’s made of. His biggest show saw him performing main stage at the legendary Camden Roundhouse as one of the main supports at Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings II. He toured with more friends and Xtra Mile family Skinny Lister, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. and Will Varley, as well as fellow working-class hero Billy Bragg. He skirted the fringes of the island with a set of dates in lesser-played Scottish towns. And he ended a year of touring with a UK and European jaunt with eternal folk travellers The Levellers, in somewhat of a dream support slot. Now, as always, he’s thinking big and now’s the time to see Seán get his band in on the act for this full UK tour in February and March 2019, with 21 stops and hardly a day off in between. • Wed 17 Apr - Flight Brigade

    8:00 PM

Flight BrigadeThink of Flight Brigade as a family as much as a seven-strong band and you start to understand the chemistry between them. Think of their songs as epic stories to which each member is essential and you begin to grasp what makes their music so powerful. The grand orchestral sweeps, the crunching anthemic guitars, With male/female vocals & strings set amidst synths & heavy guitars, their explosive live show feels like it’s their last day on earth, ‘as if Arcade Fire had a face off with Fleetwood Mac and then Renaissance came in for the kill’.Festival appearances have included Glastonbury, Bestival, Great Escape, Beautiful Days, Larmer Tree, Blissfields, Boomtown as well as Reeperbahn in Germany. Ohasis play the songs in the most current live arrangements, with amazing accuracy. Nailing the Oasis look was very important, as image is everything; and was everything to Oasis. We take our stage show very seriously. Ohasis meticulously re-create the visuals, music and atmosphere of a real Oasis performance. That’s why the band have heavily invested in the exact same guitars, basses and drums used live by Ohasis, which all helps to create that unmistakeable Oasis wall-of-sound.   Find out more...

The Doors Alive are a British tribute band widely regarded as the closest and most enthralling representation of the legendary 1960's rock gods The Doors in the world today. The band re-create the sound, look, presence and magic of a real 1960's Doors concert, perfectly and effortlessly transporting the audience back in time with classic hits such as 'Light My Fire', 'When The Music's Over, Riders On The Storm, The End and many more. Their frontman captures the look, attitude, and rich baritone voice of the late, great Jim Morrison with ease while his compadres showcase the musical chops of original Doors members Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore with finesse. The Doors Alive have left awestruck audiences all over the world and repeatedly sold out some of the most well established venues in the country, including 02 Academies all over the U.K. To achieve that authentic Sixties sound, the band use the very same instruments that members of the Doors originally used. • Sat 21 Sep - Bootleg Blondie

    9:00 PM

BOOTLEG BLONDIE is the official Debbie Harry & Blondie tribute band, the only Blondie tribute to play the legendary CBGB’s in New York City before it's demise in 2006 and to have the honour to be mentioned on Blondie’s 11th album ‘Pollinator’. Lead vocalist Debbie Harris appeared on two shows for BBC1 when she was picked out of 15,000 applicants to represent Debbie Harry on ‘Even Better Than The Real Thing’ hosted by Paddy McGuinness. The show drew in nearly 4 million viewers on the pilot episode alone. Debbie Harris and Bootleg Blondie have played the Isle Of Wight Festival, the 100 Club, the Hammersmith Palais, The Electric Ballroom in London, Eric’s in Liverpool, and have opened up for amongst others The Undertones, Slade, The Beat, Bad Manners, Heaven 17, Toyah, Hazel O’Connor, Tony Hadley, David Essex and Nick Kershaw and can be seen at all the major venues and festivals around the UK and Europe.Debbie Harris and the boys have met the REAL Blondie and are officially endorsed by the band. Debbie Harry got in touch in 2006 when she heard we were playing CBGB’s in New York City to wish us good luck with our show and when Clem Burke, Blondie's charismatic drummer, found out that we were making a replica of his Premier drum kit, he arranged a meet up to sign the Bootleg’s bass drum skin. ‘During the 2010 Blondie tour of the UK we took Clem out for a trip around London in our tour bus, he signed that too!!!!’In 2014 Clem invited Debbie and Andy to a recording session at the Foo Fighters’ famous 606 Studio in Los Angeles, where they saw Clem and the awesome Neve mixing desk in action!Debbie and Andy got married in March 2016 and to their great delight received two video clips from both Blondie and Debbie Harry herself congratulating them on their wedding day. What a wedding present! And probably the best Xmas present in the world ever was in 2016 when Clem Burke came along to a Bootleg Blondie gig and actually got up and played drums on stage with the band! He said afterwards that watching and playing with Bootleg Blondie was very emotional. Well Bootleg Blondie were very touched by Clem’s presence!!!Debbie Harris, lead vocalist of Bootleg Blondie, has the looks, the voice and the attitude of the original Blondie bombshell and like her heroine is typically outrageous on stage. She has been known to wear dustbin liners, thigh length boots and t.shirts with more holes than t.shirt!  Debbie's pride & joy is her guitar which she plays at every show and is signed by all the Blondie band members.Debbie Harris is the niece of the celebrated singer and actress Shani Wallis who played Nancy in Lionel Bart’s musical film 'Oliver'!                     ‘Good luck with your show!’ DEBBIE HARRY 'Playing with Bootleg Blondie was very emotional' CLEM BURKE ‘Thank you for your support’ CHRIS STEIN 'Hey Debbie and Andy congratulations, rock the house!'
