I have been taking my little boy to Mish Mash for the last 2 years and we both love it. It is a small friendly group with Ruth playing a variety of instruments- from an acoustic guitar to a little steel drum and singing many catchy songs that's she's written herself. There is no recorded music, its all live. The children all get involved and play instruments which change with each song but also change as the children get older. There's something for everyone, from a cuddly song about dumper trucks and diggers for the babies to more interactive songs for the toddlers that involve a bit of dance and Ruth also brings out various puppets and other special props. Another great thing about Mish Mash is that its very relaxed and there is no pressure for your child to keep in time or sit still. My little one would quite often want to sit and play with the instruments or go a bit freestyle rather than interact with a dance but that was always fine with Ruth. Each term there is a different series of songs which Ruth gives you as a CD or download so you can play them at home or in the car, and there are some songs that stay the same all through the year. My little boy quite often turns objects into musical instruments (in a good way!), I think this creative way of thinking about how to make sounds has come from Ruth and Mish Mash and for that we are really grateful. 18 Jul 17
