The remains of an imense mansion built in 1563-8 by Sir Nicholas Bacon, Queen Elizabeth's Lord Keeper, and twice visited by the Queen. Its extravagant two-storey porch survives, with parts of the hall, chapel and clock-tower. Maintained by English Heritage.
Note: the picture opposite comes from Gorhambury House (see separate entry) as Old Gorhambury was covered in scaffolding when we visited.
