Leighton Buzzard Railway

Leighton Buzzard Railway Leighton Buzzard Railway

This volunteer-run narrow gauge light railway has operated a steam-hauled passenger train service since 1968. It offers a 70-minute round trip along its three mile track from Page's Park station in Leighton Buzzard to Stonehenge Works in the Bedfordshire countryside to the north of the town. The journey includes a long stretch of roadside running and numerous level crossings, all detailed on the free Rail Trail activity and information pack that children receive.

Fun for steam train enthusiasts - review by south-sider

This is a great way to spend an hour or two with young children. The steam engines are lovingly restored and there's a choice of carriage styles to suit all tastes and weather conditions, with open sided and closed compartments. The route is mainly suburban and we didn't find much to occupy us at Stonehenge Works (opting to return once the train was refuelled). However, the staff are friendly, Page's Park station has a good cafe and there's lots to tempt little ones; both in the shop and the adjacent children's playground. Recommended. [Oct 08]
