Dating back to 1888, the St Albans Art Society support artists of all abilities and arranges monthly talks and demonstrations of media and technique by experts. Weekly studio sessions enable members to work with life, costume and portrait models and outdoor summer sketching sessions take place in local garden settings and places of historic or architectural interest. There are occasional whole day workshops and outings to galleries in London and the Home Counties. Exhibitions of members' works occur at least once each year. Quarterly newsletters contain information on all events, including the annual party. Newcomers may attend as guests before deciding whether to become members. A lower rate of annual subscription is available to students (under 21) and also to those who only attend lectures, demonstrations and social events.
