Tankerfield House B & B

Tankerfield House B & B Tankerfield House B & B

This Grade II Listed Building is located in the heart of St. Albans’ historic Romeland. The bright, spacious rooms offer the best views in St. Albans, overlooking the Cathedral, the historic Abbey Gateway and the entrance to Roman Verulamium. This leads past the Fighting Cocks pub into open parkland, museums and lake with its diversity of aquatic birds. Also under their windows is George Street, which marks the beginning of the city centre shops, bars and restaurants.

All three luxuriously furnished rooms have different characteristics, due to their ancient origins. The White Room is extremely spacious with an adjoining bathroom. The Green Suite has its own sitting room and bathroom while the Red Room has an ensuite and dare we mention it, was where Cliff Richard stayed as guest of the Abbey, or Crusaders Charity, that once owned the property. Each room is equipped with free wireless internet, tea and coffee making facilities and free-view television. You’ll revel in fine Egyptian cotton sheets, while propped up on feather pillows.

Extremely competitive price includes a full breakfast menu. Cooked items are from the kitchen while cereal, toast, fresh fruit, juices, tea and percolated coffee are self-service from the Guests’ Pantry.

Named after the protestant martyr, George Tankerfield, burned at the stake in Romeland in 1555, Tankerfield House is steeped in history but has all modern amenities. Its unique position, with the train station only a fifteen minute walk away, makes it ideal for professional stays as well as romantic weekends.

My stay - review by janice lindsay

I turned up at the wrong B and B and was relieved to find that I had. Then I arrived at the correct B and B, Tankerfield House, a beautiful period house I had a delightful 2 night stay. Great sized room and bathroom, spotlessly clean - more comfortable than many 5 star hotels. Wonderful location, a few yards from the Abbey and a short walking distance from the City Centre, restaurants, pubs and shopping. Generous and excellent breakfast - non meat eaters and (with advance notice) vegetarians catered for. Friendly and helpful owner. Her helper, Alberto, is a joy to meet. [May 12]
