Haphazard but hopeful
- review by
I really wanted to love this place as it has all the right ingredients: it's independent, is tucked away in a great venue, and the menu makes for incredible value for money.
Let's start with the good points. The menu is interesting, lots of nice twists on old favourites, is AMAZING value for money (you try finding lunch for £5 anywhere else in town)and if it's sunny, it's nice to sit out in the quirky courtyard.
However, more than a few glitches let it down. The waiting staff were very flustered, dropping menus, cluttery and even glasses left right and centre. The OH's meal arrived without a few key ingredients. When questioning the missing elements, we were told 'Sorry, the chef's not in today' - ???! I really hope these are teething niggles and get sorted soon, because Number 23 has loads of potential. I'd say watch this space. [Apr 13]
