Let's start with the positives. The place looks great. It's huge and has been very nicely done. And it's pretty decent value; a two course 'lunch' (available 'til 7pm) for £11 something. But that's about all there is to report. It's completely underwhelming. Nothing leaps off the menu and grabs you. The food itself is distinctly average. Staff are rather lackidasical; lots of standing around chatting while food sits under hot lamps on the pass with the chefs calling for service. One waitress picked up a dish, wandered off with it, came back, and asked me 'Is this for you?'. I don't know love, that's your job. Both the kitchen and the service staff were completely flustered by a large table's order; while they flapped and muddled over who had ordered what, plates of very expensive chateaubriand (at £52 a pop!) sat under heat lamps for over 5 minutes. Pity whoever ordered theirs rare...
I am sure people will go, just because of the name. But it's just another middle of the road brasserie. A market which is already rather well cornered by Cafe Rouge or Cote. [Aug 12] 26 Aug 12
