Review Overview

This place is fantastic - review by marmitemaisie
I'm fussy no two ways about it. I love this place, the staff, atmosphere but most importantly the food is delicious. Just reading some old reviews, was surprised about the review on babies not welcome as every single time I've been in here there are mums with babies or children, high chairs supplied and everyone is welcomed. I've been in here roughly 10 times with my husband, my mum and also my 2 children aged 9 and 13 and we all love it. The food is reasonably priced (around £6.50-£6.95) for a main dish and there is a blackboard of around 10-12 dishes to choose from. Good choice of home made cakes, panini's and the Latte's are smooth. Service has always been good and when they didn't have what I wanted one day the chef came out to explain and suggest an alternative. He also has asked a few times to let him know what I think of the dishes I've ordered. All in all I would recommend this to anyone. [Feb 13] 10 Feb 13

V baby unfriendly - review by vtb
Awful place - coffee too hot/burnt but worse than that, the owner clearly doesnt want custom from the mum and baby community....she asked me to leave today when my 6 month old started crying suddenly, having been very happy and quiet for the last hour but obviously hit by sudden teething pain. Obviously it is easy to ask a baby to stop crying when in pain, due to disturbing others?!? Very upsetting also given that we were standing and packing to leave in any case as I dont enjoy hearing my baby crying. Perhaps the Courtyard caf should have a sign directing mums to the Bakehouse... [Oct 12] 26 Oct 12

Lovely atmosphere - review by anna f
I love this cafe. Coffee and cakes are delicious and it has a nice relaxed vintage feel to it. Especially nice to sit out on a sunny morning. The only reason it missed out on 5 stars is that the service is a little bit slow and the coffee prices are a tiny bit high for what you get. [June 11]

good but could be better - review by rnk

We stopped here for a quick Saturday lunch. Good marks for the atmosphere and decor of the place, and the welcome we received. We had a sandwich each - coronation chicken in one and chorizo and roasted veg in the other. Quite tasty but served on supermarket sliced bread and with no accompaniment, and the service was a little slow, so slightly less marks for that. The cakes (brownie and carrot cake) were good though... [Jul 10]

Lovely interior, fab cakes - review by localgirl

This is a lovely cafe, well worth walking down hatfield road to find. Calm and vintage-feel interior, with mis-matched cups and saucers and pretty cloths. The cakes are made by the owner and local friends and include cupcakes, lemon loafs etc. The lunches are tasty and different - tarts, large sandwiches, made by the owner. He used to do the coffee at the flea market in the town hall. Service was a little slow the first few times we went in but I think that is probably due to settling in. The people working there are always friendly and welcoming. It's so good to have a good cafe that is not part of a chain, so I hope it does well. [Dec 09]
