St Albans Residents First Weekend - 30 & 31 January 2010

Are you local? If so, the eigth annual St Albans Residents First (RF) weekend brings two days of opportunities to try something new in the city with free entry to local attractions, special events, meal deals and competitions. Visit the RF Information Point at the Town Hall, Market Place on Sat 30 Jan from 9am - 4pm and Sun 31 Jan from 10am - 4pm to collect RF leaflets with full details and special event vouchers (available only on the day of the promotion).   • 10am: Come and help to improve St Julians Wood in Chiswell Green. Meet in the top car park of Greenwood Park at 10am with outdoor clothing and strong footwear.

Maltings Arts Theatre

Ryder House, Holywell Hill

Pop in and take a look at this Edwardian building; orginally built as the HQ of the Ryder Cup founder Samuel Ryder's seed company.

St Albans Organ Theatre

Free admission on Sat from 2 - 5pm and Sun from 2 - 4.30pm.

St Albans Signal Box

Sat & Sun 10am - 4pm

Winner of the prestigious Civic Society award, the 1892 grade 2 listed signal box will be open free. Pull the levers and signal the trains from Harpenden to Napsbury, and find out how trains were controlled before computers.

The Clock Tower

Sat 2 - 4pm

Take the 93 steps to the top of the tower and refuel with seasonal punch and shortcake.

The Sandpit Theatre


Pick up a postcard at the Resident's First Information point and send it back to us. First 20 tickets pulled out of the hat will receive 2 tickets to a show of their choice from the spring season brochure.

Town Hall

Visit the Judges Robing Room at the Town Hall and see an exhibition of material from the St Albans Architectural and Archaeological Society's library.

Tyttenhanger House

Sat 10am - 4pm, Sun 11am - 4pm

Enjoy a short guided tour (with tea and cake) on the hour and an exhibition by local artist Ben Askem. Limited disabled access (voucher)

Verulamium Museum

Sat & Sun

  • Free entry to the museum of Roman life (Sat 10am - 5.30pm, Sun 2 - 5.30pm) (voucher)
  • Domestic Architecture of St Michael's Village - exhibition by photographer John Bethnell
  • Sun 2-4.30pm. Meet Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni Tribe. Storytelling sessions at 2.30 and 3.30pm.
