Good luck to the new owners
We popped in to see how the Verulam Arms is faring under new owners on Friday night. The place was buzzy, with a varied clientele and lots of happy faces all round. New staff are eager to please and have bounds of enthusiasm - long may it last! Am sure they're going to make a real success of the place - after all, they've got some very high standards to live up to. The menu is not disimilar to the previous offerings - hearty, locally sourced simple food. Not cheap though, as we discovered when we tried a chocolate brownie with chantilly cream for £4.95 a pop - it was delicious, but nigh on £5 for a mouthful of brownie and cream which tasted suspicously of the squirty kind is a bit unrealistic in a pub. But on the whole, a great job so far and we look forward to seeing them settle in in the weeks to come. [Sep 09]
