Superb

We took a group of friends to The Albany in December and had the best pre-Christmas meal we've ever had. Although the restaurant was full, and on its second sitting of the evening, the quality of the food and service never faltered. This was a first for us! The staff were friendly and helpful, the communication (about timings of subsequent courses) was excellent and the food was outstanding. We had a fabulous evening and would recommend The Albany to anyone. It's so much more enjoyable to eat here than at a generic chain restaurant! [Jan 2010]

Great food, reasonable price

Great food, reasonable price - the two rarely go together these days it seems! But The Albany definitely ticked those two boxes! It's a beautiful building which lends to a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient - and not once did anyone come by during a course asking, 'Is everything alright for you?' - it's a pet peeve! I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. My friend and I shared a starter (chicken, ham hock, and foie gras terrine - this was totally yummy), we had the halibut and salmon for main (perfectly cooked) and shared a dessert (super super scrumptious chococale fondant!). Will definitely return! [Nov 09]

Great food, lovely evening

We had heard a lot about this restaurant when my husband and I finally managed to go and try it. We weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, the service quick but unobtrusive. We will go again and take friends next time. [Nov 09]

Wonderful food, service and ambience

We've eaten at the Albany three times now and it has consistently delivered excellent tasty food backed up with attentive and friendly service. My friend chose 2 courses whereas I went for 3. The Crab Mayonnaise with Avocado was a success with a mouthwatering combination of flavours, and the Rump Steak perfectly cooked. The chips were clearly the sort that had been double- or even triple-fried and were unbelievably tasty. For the quality and ambience of the restaurant, the superb food, a good and reasonably priced wine list, and excellent service it is a real gem in George Street. All in all, a lovely restaurant that delivers excellent quality at a reasonable price. [Jul 09]

excellent food and service

We were invited to a birthday meal here and we had a great time. Although the group was large, we all had very good food and fast service. If they can cope with a large group so well, that is a good sign. Our fish was cooked perfectly and the desserts fab. Pretty location on George Street, so a good place for a special occasion. Homely but in a good way

We really enjoyed our meal at the Albany. Service was good, and the restaurant, a converted old pub, has a good atmosphere - intimate and homely without feeling claustrophobic. Food highlights included the sea bass and ice cream sorbet, though these were separate dishes, naturally. Recommended. [Oct 08]
