Does what it says on the tin

I've been to this restaurant (well, perhaps cafe) on numerous occasions. If you want a good pizza and a bottle of red without breaking the bank, its great. It's also tiny, so you need to book at the weekends. [Oct 09]

We wouldn't go anywhere else for Italian in St Albans

What can I say? Cosa is our favourite Italian bar none. It's simple, no frills, excellent value food served in a basic setting by incredibly friendly, expert staff. Freddy, Tony and team will go out of their way to ensure you've having a good night. We love it and wouldn't go anywhere else for pizza or pasta. [May 09]

Just like Mama used to make!

If your idea of authentic Italian food is a little more rustic and home-made than the identical-each-time dishes served up by the big chains, then try your neighbourhood trattoria, La Cosa Nostra. We had the sunny front terrace to ourselves for a weekday lunch. The friendly staff organised shade, a supply of cold Nastro Azzuro, a highchair and plenty of good food from a varied menu of pizza, pasta and specials. Service was relaxed, and the diners were too. We shared the varied antipasti (great apart from the tinned/frozen seafood) and some perfectly cooked calamari. Mains of Penne al Tonno e olive (tuna, olives, capers), Tagliatelle Carbonara, Vitello Milanese (veal escalope in breadcrumb with spaghetti bolognaise) and Penne Luigi (mushrooms, onions, peppers and bolognaise) – all with unlimited parmesan were excellent. We’ll be going back soon to try the desserts. With starters around £5, mains from £7 to £17 (pizzas £7 to £8) and puds for £3, there’s something for every budget and a real taste of Italy here.
