Situated in Verulamium Park, a stone's throw from the hypocaust, museum and splash park, this café has one of the best locations in town. It caters for all tastes with hot and cold drinks, snacks, cakes and ice creams. Their lunch menu includes a range of home made soups, sandwiches, toasties, jacket potatoes, salads and daily specials. At weekends, and in the summer months, be prepared to queue out of the door for drinks or ice creams.
There are excellent facilities for families – including a basket of soft toys to amuse little ones, children's portions and use of a baby food warmer. The café also sells grain so that you can treat the local ducks, geese and swans to something other than bread (which isn't very good for them or the environment). Its ever expanding range of merchandise includes kites, racquet and ball sets and clothing accessories.

locals are in on the perks of inn on the park
My husband and I discovered this gem last summer and it has been a godsend for summer 09. Great food, we've never had the cakes but we usually have proper meals or light lunches rather than a coffee and cake but it's all been fantastic, the soup, the baked potatoes and various fillings, the sandwiches etc and on one occasion a curry. It's always been great, consistently good standard and location's great when people come to visit, a stroll around the park or museum and then over to the inn on the park. Perfect? almost, they need to sort out the loos which is why it's only 4 stars, but still, that's not why you go there. [Nov 09]

warm welcome and great soup
This cafe has blossomed over the past year. The food is great - the daily veg soups are delicious and good value; eg potato and parmesan, parnsip and apple. The little cupcakes from Simmons are lovely. Toddler meals are good value - half a jacket potato with any filling, or healthy lunchboxes. We always get a warm smile, even with lively toddlers in tow. There is art on a friday morning in term time sited in the large back room. No need to book - you pay when you arrive and have a half hour slot (£3.50). Shame about one grumpy older customer I encountered once - (warning - its a park, there will be *gasp* children in the cafe). [Mar 09]

Much improved
Good to see that Inn on the Park has responded to customer feedback (see below) and made some changes. On recent visits we've been greeted with friendly service and had some great cake too - the coffee and walnut one is delicious. We'll be popping in to warm up with a hot chocolate more often. Great location - give us a smile please!
This is a very handy spot to stop for a snack in the park, but as regulars, we think it could be even better. In two years of frequent visiting (on the duck-feeding route) we’ve yet to be greeted with any enthusiasm, or even a big smile. Perhaps this disinterest in customers is due to the café’s location, which virtually guarantees repeat business. We also love really good cakes but we find the range on offer rather synthetic and tasteless. In reply to these comments, Inn on the Park said: We do try to serve homemade cakes. Our round cakes are from a company who does hand make them and in regards to muffins and cookies we will review our suppliers to see if we can improve their quality. We apologise for any staff attitude that is not up to our customer requirements. We will try to change this. [Oct 08]
