its a good curry in st albans

Food is good and menu is bit more creative than your usual curry place. The windows steam up, but I think it lends atmosphere. I would recommend Chilli Raj. Their takeaway is good to. [Sep 11]

Food is good but service is shocking.

Food is good at Chilli Raj, but the service is shocking. Despite my husband going to school with the guys who own it, we have yet to return (it's been 4 years). Food is good--it used to be my favourite--but now we won't go back on principle. Also, duff loyalty card is true! [Jan 11]

Watch out for rip off loyalty card

Food still good service not so good now, i handed in a loyalty card to get £10 off my meal and was shocked when the manager told me it was now out of date, i asked if they still run a loyalty card he said yes and the same rules apply but the card i had was out of date be warned!! i had spent £180. i asked for the card back to show them there was no end date and was told it has been distroyed. i am now taking it up with the trading standards. A return to form

Saturday was our first meal at The Chilli Raj for about 6 months, following a pretty average experience on our last visit. So we were delighted that they're back to true form - excellent food (far above your standard curry house fare) served by attentive, friendly staff. We went late on a Saturday night and the place was buzzing, but staff remained unfazed and still had time to chat away to regulars. The food was absolutely excellent and it's decent value for money. All in all a cracking night out, well done Chilli Raj. [Oct 09]

3rd visit: still good food, service has deteriorated

The food here is very good - a bit beyond your standard curry house. The house wine is of reasonable quality and only £10 a bottle. But our visit last Saturday was marred by poor service. It took an hour from the time of our booking for the starters to arrive; by the time the mains arrive we were too tired to really enjoy them. Other tables seemed to be having the same wait. The problem seems to be a lack of control - no one really seemed to be taking charge. A shame, as this was our third visit and the first time we've had this problem (I'd have given it 4 stars otherwise), but it's put us off going back. [Jul 09]
