Beautiful Place
Cafe Rouge delivers consistently to a good standard but you're never blow away. The glass roof is amazing! especially if it rains. I've been couple of times, but struggle to walk down the hill past the other options in town. [Sep 11]

(happy) people in glass houses...
You can't have missed the beautiful, small glass palace halfway up Holywell Hill, but you may have thought 'that's just another Cafe Rouge'. This may be true, but it's worth a visit, and it's probably the best of the bunch. The setting works very well. Originally a horticultural building owned by the same Mr Ryder who founded the Ryder Cup (useless bit of trivia for you), it's been transformed into a light and airy glassy restaurant with a strangely traditional Gallic feel. Our service was excellent and we certainly ate (and drank) well. The Toulouse sausage and moules went down well as main courses, and we also enjoyed a tasty chocolate cake and creme brulee for pudding. The 'prix fixe' set menus are good value in these cost-conscious times too, so it won't hit your pocket too hard. Recommended. [May 09]
