Saturday Morning Stop Shop
When St Albans is packed out with Saturday morning shoppers and you need a tea break, and Barissimo is full, it's good to remember that Cafe Nes is just round the corner. We had teas, a coffee and a milk shake between us and they pretty much hit the spot. What's more we counted at least seven staff in the cafe, so service was good. Just before we got there, we were handed a leaflet with top tips for mental health - should have included stopping in a cafe for a nice cup of tea and a sit down. [Oct 09]

Reasonably priced but dodgy service
We've been to this cafe quite a few times but on the last two occasions the service was incredibly slow, which is always a disaster when you have a toddler in tow and because of that I'd be very reluctant to go again in spite of the low prices. [May 09]

Good town centre all-rounder
A café by day and Italian restaurant by night, this great local all-rounder has a central location, good food and modest prices. We ordered lunch from the varied ‘coffee bar’ menu (see website) which included all-day breakfasts, soup, sandwiches, salads, jackets, pasta and paninis, as well as a range of hot dishes, a children’s menu and plenty of interesting drinks. Our food was quick, tasty and a bargain at around £10 for two people (we had a breakfast fry up, spaghetti carbonara and cappuccinos). We’ll be back soon to sample more of the menu and the Italian fare cooked ‘by real Italians’ in the evening. [Oct 08]
