Charming
This was our long overdue first visit to Bua Thai and we really enjoyed it. It's small, cosy and inviting, with friendly staff, tasty, freshly prepared food and very reasonable prices. Would have scored 5 had it not been for the people coming in to collect takeaway on a Saturday night who stood next to our table talking into their mobile phones! [Jan 11]

Fantastic food, excellent service
This has always been my favourite Thai restaurant in St Albans and I was pleased to see it hadn't changed. The food was good quality, the waiter was attentive and courteous and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The corkage charge is £4 so depending on how cheap you like your wine, it may not always be worth bringing your own. Sadly, not being wine buffs, it was worth it for us. [Jun 10]

measures up
It might be a bit cosier and less glam than the big Thai restaurant in the centre of town, but Bua Thai measures up. It was reassuringly full for a Thursday evening, and we got a friendly welcome. It took about 20 minutes to take our order, during which time we decided against the starter, but when the main courses came, we realised this may have been our loss: a delicious seafood red curry and a subtly tasty duck in tamarind. All reasonably priced. We'll come again as it's slap bang on our way home too. [Aug 09]

Reliable food and service - and it's BYO!
It's easy to overlook Bua Thai, tucked up on the top end of St Peter's Street - especially with the new Thai kids on the block that have appeared in the town in recent years. But for those of us who have stumbled across it, it's a real gem. The first plus point is undoubtedly the staff - they're charming, friendly and always happy to put up with the other half's enthusiastic attempts at pronouncing the deliciously exotic dishes. There's a big, but not overwhelming, menu. Food comes quickly and is consistently good. A complimentary fresh fruit selection after your meal is a lovely touch. Prices have crept up over the past year but it's still very good value - especially as they're BYO (£4 corkage applies). It's certainly not as modern as Thai Square or as decoratively ornate as Thai Rack, but if you like simple, good value food with a smile I'd give it a whirl. [Jul 09]

Chilled Atmosphere with decent Oriental Cuisine
It may not be the best decor or location in town. The good thing is that their food as absolutely gorgeous. All the rice dishes are lovely and their special duck with tamarind is one my husband and I order every time we go. [Nov 08]
