This small, family friendly café in central Harpenden serves great food. A perfect place to take children for lunch.

Fantastic for mums
If you want somewhere to sit down and enjoy your coffee while your children go and play, then you can't beat it. Its small and friendly with a good choice of childrens food and milkshakes (and homemade cakes)and the food good. Recommended. [Sep 10]

A very strange mix
After my third visit to The Gingerbread amn in Harpenden I felt I wanted to leave a review due to the very inconsistent service. During a thirty minute stay we had wanted to order more drinks but never got the chance as nobody bothered to check if we needed anything. My son was given the larger (and more expensive) milkshake even though it was obvious he was a child. The tables are a little too close together and though the food was of a good standard for the lack of atmosphere the prices were too much. The man who I took to be the owner and served us when we paid gave off a very brusque attitude and made both my child and myself uncomfortable. We won't be going back. [Jan 10]

The best place for brunch
If you happen to be passing through the Harpenden high street at around 11am and begin to feel peckish, look no further than the Gingerbread Man café on Vaughan Road. Small but cosy, the shop did happen to be full of children but if you are patient, and hungry enough the food more than makes up for it. Simple sandwiches and jacket potatoes are pulled off in style. Along with the best milkshakes I have ever had! (This is my “kid’s point of view”. I had to mention that!) Also the café supplies high chairs and healthy food for younger children. [Nov 08]
