Formed in 2003, this local company offers weekly one hour lessons in guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals. Workshops are run evenings and weekends to avoid clashing with school commitments. All ages catered for with programmes available for the complete beginner through to more experienced players. Locations in St Albans, Harpenden, Watford, Hemel and Potters Bar with additional workshops in Welwyn, Hitchin, Barnet and Luton.

Music mania

I have been going to Strum and Drum for 3 years now. I started with the keyboard and moved on to drums. Each session is an hour long and a great chance to brush up on your musical skills in guitar, keyboard, bass guitar and drums but I started as a beginner (and now I am one of the best drummers in my school). Sometimes I learn to play a song but usually I am taught for about 3/4 hour and then we have a 15 minute jam.

You need stable ear drums because this part is very noisy. If you miss a session you have the option of a double session - usually the next week and in the holidays if you go it becomes very laid back. I have really enjoyed it - it is an informal way to learn with no practice needed! [Oct 08]
