Sopwell Nunnery
The ruined remains of the Tudor mansion built around 1560 by Sir Richard Lee on the site of a medieval nunnery dating back to 1140, founded by the abbot of St Albans, Geoffrey de Gorham. The mansion follows the monastic plan, using the church for the hall and the cloisters for a courtyard. Admission free. A leaflet is available here.
