Great atmosphere, fantastic food

This was my first visit to Freddie's. We received a warm welcome and the low key lighting and music made for a relaxing atmosphere. We had starters, mains and desserts, and the food was superb. My pork was succulent, and as far as I remember, portions were good. At the end, the manager himself came over to say hello, which we appreciated. I would definitely go back. [Apr 12]

Always excellent

Superb and beautifully presented food, excellent service and Freddie is always charming and nothing is too much trouble. I have never had a cause for complaint, or experienced anything that has been less than perfect. Good size portions, beautifully seasoned and the fillet steak when on the menu is the best you can get in St Albans. Freddies never fails to please! [Feb 12]

Good food and good seating!

We have been to Freddies many times and have never had a poor experience - the welcome is genuine, the service friendly and efficient and Freddie himself ensures that everything is to the highest standard and concerns himself continuously about every individual customer's experience which says a lot. The food is always excellent and the wines are good and not over priced. I am very tall and the seating - for all heights - is the best around! [Sep 10]

A great place to take grandparents

The service in this place is very attentive and friendly. If you have your folks in town, particularly grand-parents, then this is a good choice. We went for Sunday lunch and enjoyed ourselves, but the atmosphere is more for the over 50s. [Nov 09]

Always a winner

This is our favourite restaurant in St Albans. I don't know how many times we have been now - as a couple, in a 4, in a 6, and once in a group of 20. We have never had anything other than an excellent experience, and all the friends we have taken have returned themselves (which must be a good sign). The owner, Freddie, is always there to welcome you and checks everything personally - and that makes a difference when most places have different staff all the time. The food is Mediterranean - good meat, fresh fish, and veg dishes - not cheap but all reasonably priced. And the tables are nicely placed apart - good size for 2 or 4, or you can have a round one for 4,5,6. [Apr 09]
