Bar Meze

Bar Meze Bar Meze Bar Meze

Nimatt's Bar Mezé just off the top end of St Peters Street in St Albans serves the native cuisine of Cyprus. The dishes have Greek, Ottoman and Arabic influences resulting in a unique blend. Their motto of 'Eat, Drink, Share' means that there are no set starters or main courses, and you can order a snack or a main meal simply by varying the number of dishes chosen. The restaurant uses fish and meat from well-known London markets. An ideal place for a relaxing lunch, Bar Meze is lively with a great atmosphere in the evenings, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Booking is recommended. (Note: toilets are upstairs in the restaurant).

Relaxing evening

We recently had a very nice evening here after being reminded of it's existence from the new booking system on this website. I think it's under new management and I can certainly say the service was excellent, very attentive and pleasant. The food was good too and there was a lot of variety. The special offer also made it a billy bargain, but it's good value food anyway. We'll go back for sure. [Nov 09]

tarama-tastic

We popped in here for a pit(ta) stop on a Saturday lunchtime, and loved it. The service was extremely (and genuinely) friendly, and the food was first class. We had a plate of kalamari and mezetakia for two (a range of cold dishes). Highlights included the houmous, an aubergine dip, and a taramasalata that was lighter, creamier and way more delicious than the bright pink stuff you get in supermarkets. And as for the home-made blueberry cheesecake - divine. [Oct 09]

Fabulous atmosphere, great food

Oh, how I adore Nimatt's Bar Meze. It has such a friendly atmosphere, lovely staff and a mouth-watering Greek menu. The Brunette, a confirmed if not militant veggie, and our vegetarian kiddies, love it - fresh, warm pitta bread, houmous, roasted red peppers, aubergine dip, marinated broad beans, crispy home-made falafels, rustic chips. While they're tucking into all of that, I can clandestinely nibble on beautifully barbecued keftedes and souvlakia. We keep going back: what better recommendation can there be than that? [Oct 09]

great for lunch too

I took my Mum and daughter for mid-week lunch and received a very warm welcome and great service. The meze was fresh and tasty, and great value for the three of us. I loved the swordfish skewer I had. We always seem to order too much. Interior is attractive, exposed brick and beams, and very light. Evenings are lively, with lots of cheap wine being drunk! Fantastic Night!

Visited the restaurant with my partner and thoroughly enjoyed 'The Meze' with endless dishes and loads of different flavours!!! (It was also nice to have a number of healthy options to choose from). The atmosphere and service was great and we really enjoyed the music. A warm and friendly restaurant - we will definitely be back! [Nov 08]

Lively!

Took the elderly in-laws to Bar Meze on a Friday night - thinking that its tucked away location at the top end of St Peters St would make for a quiet meal. We were wrong. The place was packed and (our waitress cheerfully admitted) double booked with people standing waiting for tables. Despite the crush and the noise level (we gave up shouting to our guests), we had a fun time - thanks to the lively atmosphere, fast and friendly service and good food. [Oct 08]
